Prairie View A&M University invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Libraries. The University seeks a dynamic, energetic leader who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship, transformative leadership and an overall commitment to educational excellence. The Director leads the John B. Coleman Library in its mission to meet the needs of the University, articulates a strategic vision, and serves as advocate for the Library within the University and the larger community. The Director reports to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. As the chief administrative officer for the Library, the Director is responsible for providing leadership and oversight as well as management of fiscal resources.
The Director is responsible for planning, budgeting, and staffing in support of the academic, instructional and information needs of faculty, students and staff. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, consulting with College faculty to determine library resources and service needs of academic programs and departments; collaborating with College administrators to determine budget and personnel requirements and coordinating library practices and procedures with College policies; consulting with the Executive Director of Academic Technology to determine technology needs and resources and to provide support for information management and delivery; partnering with Physical Plant Department to coordinate maintenance of and modifications to the Library building; developing programs and policies in support of the academic program overall and in key areas such as information literacy, student and faculty research, and technology as well as assess quality and effectiveness of the programs; developing and administering the Library’s annual operating budget; managing the Library’s physical collections; representing the College at national and regional conferences; participating in leadership positions in appropriate professional associations; acting as an advocate for the libraries and its faculty and staff; fostering professionalism, diversity and a positive work/learning environment in the University Libraries; enforcing policies and regulations adopted by the State of Texas, Texas A&M University System, and Prairie View A&M University; facilitating the continuing transformation of the University Libraries into a knowledge commons that integrates diverse resources, seeks new opportunities, engages with the community, collaborates with university units, and sustains a vibrant research and learning community; creating an environment that facilitates research and scholarly activity with an understanding of innovative and traditional methods of innovation and dissemination.
