Required Education

High School diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the TCOLE requirements for an intermediate or advanced Peace Officer.

Required Experience

Eight years of related experience as licensed Police Officer.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population. Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions.

Required Certification(s)/Licensure(s)

Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) intermediate or advanced certification. Must have a State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Posting Summary

This position is responsible for providing police/law enforcement presence on university campus and enforcing all criminal laws and violations of criminal penal code of the state of Texas as well as the polices of Prairie View A&M University. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, working under general supervision of police lieutenant or captain; patrolling property under the jurisdiction of Prairie View A&M University in Waller County by bicycle or on foot; investigating illegal or suspicious activities, persons and establishments, causes and results of accidents; taking reports and performing preliminary investigations; reporting all violations of the rules and regulations of Prairie View A&M University; preventing crime, suppressing disturbances, issuing citations and testifying in Justice of the Peace Court as well as County and District Courts and student judicial hearings; guarding and transporting prisoners; interacting with public by day-to-day contact; providing escort service as needed and assisting state, county and city law enforcement authorities as requested; responding to emergency calls and taking appropriate action; providing assistance to other law enforcement and community departments or agencies; functioning as training coordinator to ensure compliance with state TCLEOSE training mandates and as a Victim Assistance Coordinator for the department; providing supervision to assigned officers and staff.
