Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field
No prior experience required for positions that are not designated as an urban county. Positions for designated urban counties require three (3) years of related experience.
|Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities||
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Technical competence in appropriate subject matter and the ability to apply this knowledge to the solution of problems. Understanding of the learning and development processes of youth and adults. Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods to provide effective learning experiences.

Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education. At least one degree must be in a community/economic development related field of study such as Community Development, Business, Accounting, Economics, Agricultural Economics, or Public Policy. An equivalent combination of directly related experience in Community and Economic Development may be accepted in lieu of the specific degree requirement.
|Preferred Experience Requirements||
One to three years demonstrated professional experience working with limited resource clientele in the area of small business development, agribusiness development, farmer’s market/cooperative development, community resources, business financing, home ownership, or community organizational development.
|Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities||
Academic and experiential training showing demonstrated professional and technical competencies in community development, small business development and loan packaging preferred. Advanced academic training in the area of community and/or economic development; prefer one or more years of experience in providing consulting/technical assistance to entrepreneurs, farmers, ranchers, small businesses and/or community organizations. The ability to integrate technology and innovation in applying knowledge and skills to solutions of specific issues identified by clientele and Extension personnel is preferred. Experience in dealing with multiple complexities involved in business development, or the ability to adapt to the needs of individual clients and communities is a highly desired trait. Ability to independently research academic and industry accepted solutions to client and community needs is critical. Demonstrated leadership and experience working with government agencies and other federal/state partners, community groups, etc., are desirable.
Valid Texas Driver’s License
Position is needed to assist the Cooperative Extension Program in carrying out its mission and objectives according to the mandates and requirements of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This includes, but not limited to: Small business development, agribusiness development, farmer’s market/Cooperative development, community resources, business financing, home ownership, and community organization development. The work location for this position is El Paso County (El Paso, TX).
