Preferred Education

Doctoral degree in science education or a related field from an accredited program and institution (Advanced ABD status—the doctorate must be completed by August 31, 2017). Capacity for successful teaching and research at the university level and commitment to working with diverse populations.

Preferred Experience Requirements

Training and experience in comprehensive science education that may include STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics).
Two years of successful teaching of science in K-12 settings.
Successful teaching experience in science education at the university level.
•Demonstrated commitment (i.e. professional affiliations, scholarly contributions, service) to science education—sustainability and environmental education.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Experience and interest in teaching with technology.
Experience in supervision of pre-service teachers in schools.
Demonstrated interest in establishing school-university partnerships.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of course and faculty load assignments, undergraduate and graduate academic support strategies, general guidelines for faculty and promotion and tenure processes; state and national policy issues related to education fields.

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Whitlowe R. Green College of Education invites applications for a scholar and teacher in Science Education for a full-time tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, teaching undergraduate and graduate pre-service and in-service teachers in science education; developing and maintaining a substantive research agenda; advising a diverse community of undergraduate students enrolled in education preparation programs; aligning course content and key assessment to meet CAEP standards; participating in service assignments in the department, college, university and the professional organizations in the science, mathematics, technology, and Teacher Education.
