Preferred Experience Requirements

Professional training and experience in Special Education.
Two years of successful teaching in K-12 settings, preferably in a Special Education classroom.
Successful teaching experience in special education at the university level.
Demonstrated commitment (i.e. professional affiliations, scholarly contributions, service) to special education.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Experience and interest in teaching with technology and knowledge of how to integrate assistive technology in the K-12 classroom.
Experience in supervision of pre-service teachers in schools.
Demonstrated interest in establishing school-university partnerships.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in special education at all levels (PK – 12); supervise students during their student teaching internships; develop partnerships with local schools; and contribute to the assessment and accreditation of teacher education programs. Responsibilities of this 9-month position also include advising a diverse community of students and the recruiting of adjuncts to teach courses in the program. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a substantive research agenda; engage in service assignments in the department, college, university, and service to the professional organizations in Special Education.

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Whitlowe R. Green College of Education invites applications for a scholar and teacher in Education for a full-time tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor. Primary duties include, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in special education at all levels (PK – 12); but are not limited to, supervising students during their student teaching internships; developing partnerships with local schools; and contributing to the assessment and accreditation of teacher education programs. Responsibilities of this 9-month position also include advising a diverse community of students and the recruiting of adjuncts to teach courses in the program. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a substantive research agenda; engage in service assignments in the department, college, university, and service to the professional organizations in Special Education.

Applicants for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor must meet the requirements and possess a distinguished record of academic achievement (established research agenda including recent publications and presentations, and experience with content and educator preparer standards) that meets the criteria for Associate Professor status at Prairie View A& M University.

Special Requirements

Training and experience in comprehensive Special Education that may include STEM fields. Two years of successful teaching of Special Education in K-12 settings. Successful teaching experience in education at the university level. Demonstrated commitment (i.e. professional affiliations, scholarly contributions, service) to math education-sustainability and environmental education.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Experience and interest in teaching with technology. Experience in supervision of pre-service teachers in schools.Demonstrated interest in establishing school-university partnerships.

The appointment date for this position will be for September 1, 2017 or after.
