Preferred Experience Requirements

Training and professional experience in Reading and Language Arts or Literacy Education).
Two years of successful teaching of reading and language arts in K-12 settings.
Successful teaching experience in Literacy Education or Reading and Language Arts at the university level.
Demonstrated commitment (i.e. professional affiliations, scholarly contributions, service).
Experience working with diverse populations.
Experience and interest in teaching with technology.
Experience in supervision of pre-service teachers in schools.
Demonstrated interest in establishing school-university partnerships.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Teaching undergraduate and graduate reading/literacy courses and early elementary education courses for students seeking initial teaching certification and/or advanced credentials; demonstrative skills/competencies in assessment and evaluation of readers/writers and effective literacy programs, knowledge and experience with digital literacies, and culturally responsive literacy approaches, aligning course content and key assessments to meet CAEP and professional content standards; service assignments in the department, college, university, and service to the professional organizations in the science, mathematics, technology, and Teacher Education. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a substantive research agenda; and advise a diverse community of undergraduate and graduate students.

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Whitlowe R. Green College of Education invites applications for a full-time, tenured or tenure-track position as a scholar and teacher of Literacy Education and Elementary Education. Primary duties include, teaching undergraduate and graduate reading/literacy courses and early elementary education courses for students seeking initial teaching certification and/or advanced credentials but are not limited to, demonstrative skills/competencies in assessment and evaluation of readers/writers and effective literacy programs, knowledge and experience with digital literacies, and culturally responsive literacy approaches, aligning course content and key assessments to meet CAEP and professional content standards; service assignments in the department, college, university, and service to the professional organizations in the science, mathematics, technology, and Teacher Education. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a substantive research agenda; and advise a diverse community of undergraduate and graduate students.

Applicants must meet the requirements and possess a distinguished record of academic achievement (established research agenda including recent publications and presentations, and experience with content and educator preparer standards) that meets the criteria for Assistant/Associate Professor status at Prairie View A& M University.
